Home Grown Books is an independent publisher devoted to supporting organic learning and creativity in early education. We create books that are educationally sound enough to be used in the classroom and visually captivating enough to be displayed on the coffee table.
We are guided by a simple philosophy: children deserve reading material as rich as their imaginations.
ORGANIC LEARNING:We reject the one-size-fits-all education model, and are committed to treating children as unique, creative individuals.
Our books honor children's innate intelligence: we develop compelling content that will spark their curiosity. The key to reading success is to play and revisit. Because our books support little readers imaginations, they will revisit our books, effortlessly strengthening reading habits and fostering confidence as a reader.
Creativity:We believe in the power of art to engage little reader's minds.
Our books feature artwork by emerging and established artists that will capture the imaginations of little ones, while the content of our books will build their vocabulary and their confidence as a reader. The language is simple and the artwork is complex, leaving room beyond the words for a child's imagination to explore.
SUSTAINABILITY:We care about our community and our earth. We are the only independent publisher that manufactures all of our books in the United States with eco-friendly practices.
Our board books are printed in New York with 100% recycled (min 35% post consumer) CCNB paperboard with an aqueous coating. Our paperback books are printed on 50% post consumer paper using low-VOC vegetable inks, and renewable wind-powered energy. Our book pack packaging is printed in New York on paper from managed forest using low-VOC vegetable inks and renewable wind-powered energy.
We manufacture locally to support fellow small businesses and strengthen our community.
Giving Back:We believe in giving back to our community and to our artists.
The emerging artists of our Little Reader Series and Toddler Series receive a portion of all profits from their books.
We develop free resources for parents of little readers. Check out our Parent Resource page and our blog to see tips, activities, and videos centered around creativity and organic learning in early education. We also hold local art and reading events that are open to the community. If you are a NYC-based shop or event space and are interested in collaborating on an event, contact us!
